What if the Winners of the 2016 Election were YOU and I?
Haven’t we given away enough of our power and our lives? I don’t want either of the candidates to “win.” I want whoever gets the most votes to act in their proper role by serving us, so that WE THE PEOPLE win. Is that too much to ask? So how could Election 2016 be a victory for you and I? What would make us feel that we had won, regardless of who gets the most votes?
We could claim a real victory if all of us U.S. citizens delivered a united message to the candidates and to every member of the dysfunctional Washington/government machine, telling them EXACTLY what we want and demand. We must make it clear that we will take aggressive action if our demands aren’t met. Fortunately, those aggressive actions are specifically defined in our Declaration of Independence. *
You say “But that’s impossible – we are so divided, no one can agree on anything.” Yes, you are absolutely right, and that is why the founders stressed in the Constitution that only specific powers were granted to the government – everything else was to be settled by states, counties, communities.** Each can address and resolve these contentious issues (gay rights, abortion, drugs, education, and a million others). What is left are the core responsibilities of our federal public servants on which we can all agree.
And what IS our message to the candidates?
If and when elected, you will be a servant (and ONLY a servant) to the American people.
You will take EVERY action based on the spirit of our founding documents (see the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights).
ALL connection, collusion, donations, bribes, between government/politicians and corporations and wealthy donors will immediately cease. The influence of collusion, money and power is increasing the gap between the have’s and have-nots. Government is no longer serving the people.
You will draw your salary as a public servant. You will no longer receive $ millions of questionable profits to you (donations, bribes, favors, side-door payments through foundations and non-profits, etc.). These will no longer be allowed because, as a public servant, these are conflicts of interest.
You and every single government employee and officeholder will live by the same rules and laws as we do – no exceptions, no looking the other way, no more lies, graft, corruption, amassing of personal fortunes at the expense of us working-class Americans. Courts and judges and the FBI and the IRS are corrupt and can no longer be trusted – this must stop.
As the government is systematically cleaned up and down-sized, the $ billions of our money (the cost of our huge bureaucracy, graft, under-the-table bribery, payments to foreign nations, etc.) will be promptly returned to us, to use in our families and communities.
The government will return to doing ONLY those specific tasks listed in the Constitution. Henceforth, they must not meddle in ANY aspects of our lives which we can do for ourselves in our states and locales Hereafter all proposed increases of government scope and power will be scrutinized. Where there is ANY doubt, the responsibility will be pushed back to the people, and they will receive (keep) the money to successfully deal with these responsibilities, instead of increasing taxes and the size of government.
Because the U.S. government, including EVERY branch (presidency, supreme court and judges, senate, house of representatives) has become so dysfunctional and unresponsive to the people, we want the term “Government of the United States” to be replaced with “Public Servants of the United States.” This will create a highly visible reminder of the proper role of the public sector, showing ourselves and the rest of the world that we have stopped our runaway, power-hungry government and returned to a strong, healthy, and truly representative democracy (a republic).
